What I Learned After 1-Year of Training

¡Hola a todos!

Today, I want to share about my experience of getting into fitness training and what I have learned after doing it consistently for about a year.

We all know that exercise comes with many benefits, such as a better physique, greater self-discipline, a healthier body, and a more positive mindset. However, I think there is something more difficult to learn than the benefits themselves: progress takes time.

We all want to become the best version of ourselves overnight. We want to see visible changes as soon as possible, become stronger quickly, and feel that all our effort is paying off. Unfortunately, that is not how it works.

After about a year of training, I can finally see noticeable changes in my physique. I’m happy with the result, but what makes me happier is realizing how different my attitude toward training has become.

First of all, I’m not someown who is naturally talented at fitness. I’m just an ordinary person who wants to look good and become a better version of myself.

You don’t necessarily need to be talented to make progress. You just need to keep showing up.

That sounds simple, but actually doing it is another story.

When you first start exercising, you might be highly motivated. You imagine how you will look after several weeks and feel excited about the future. But after a few weeks, the excitement usually fades. Gogin to the gym becomes less about motivation and more about whether you have built a habit.

And that’s where I think the real challenge begins.

From Once a Week to Four Times a Week#

When I first started going to the gym, I usually went only once a week. It wasn’t really a serious part of my life. I simply went whenever I had enough time or motivation.

Then, during a PE class, my teacher told me something that stayed with me.

He said that working out is similar to studying. If you only study once in a while, you cannot expect to make significant progress. You need to spend enough time on it before you can see the results. The more I thought about it, the more sense it made.

If I wanted to improve my physique, why would I expect to see meaningful changes while only going to the gym once a week?

So I gradually started spending more time and attention on training. I didn’t suddenly decide to go to the gym every day. Instead, I slowly increased the frequency, from once a week became twice a week, then three times a week, and eventually around four times a week.

The change was gradual enough that it didn’t feel like I was forcing myself to completely change my lifestyle.

Eventually, going to the gym simply became part of my routine.

I think this is one of the most important things I have learned from training. A habit doesn’t have to begin as something big. It can start with something small and become part of your life little by little. Paso a paso.

You Don’t Have to Be Perfect#

Another thing I have learned is that consistency doesn’t mean being perfect.

There are days when I don’t feel like training. Sometimes I’m tired, busy, or simply not in the mood. There are also times when I cannot complete everything I planned to do.

But I don’t think missing one workout means that I have failed.

The important thing is to come back.

I think the mindset is useful not only for fitness, but also for many other things in life. When we start learning a language, developing a skill, or working toward a long-term goal, it is easy to become frustrated because the results are not immediately visible.

We often focus too much on how far we still have to go instead of noticing how far we have already come.

Training has taught me to look at progress on a longer timeline. One workout probably won’t change your body. One day of studying probably won’t make you fluent in a language. One productive day probably won’t transform your career.

But doing these things repeatedly can eventually create a completely different version of yourself.
